Bupa Great North Run 2011

Apart from the occasional shower, today saw almost perfect conditions for the 31st Edition of the Bupa Great North Run. In addition to over 30,000 ‘fun’ runners Elite runners and wheelchair athletes from across the globe too part with great results being posted in all categories.

The elite men’s event was won by Kenyan Martin Mathathi in a time of 58mins 56secs for the 13.1 mile (half marathon) course, setting a new course record in the process. In the elite women’s event Lucy Kabuu took the win to create a kenyan clean sweep of the elite categories.

In the wheelchair event the women’s category saw a British winner in the form of Shelly Woods while the men’s title went to Canada’s Josh Cassidy.
