Halo British downhill series 2012 – Round 2 – Fort William

I took a trip up to Fort William last weekend for the second round of the 2012 Halo british downhill series. With Bad weather forecast for the Sunday the lessons learnt at Glencoe last year were put into action. Rather than pinning all hopes on the weather holding out for the race runs on the Sunday, this year the decision was made to move the Qualifying runs to Saturday Afternoon so as to have at least one race run completed should the weather turn bad.

As it happened this was exactly the case and word came round mid afternoon that day 2 wasn’t to be and the final result would be determined on saturday’s race run.

in an extremely talented field of rider, including over 50 elite rider, the fastest run of the day was posted by reigning world champion Danny Hart. This was despite losing his chain somewhere on the motorway section and having to pump/aero tuck his was down the final part of the course! In the women’s category was junior world champion Manon Carpenter with former world champion Rachel Atherton hot on her heels. Testament to the brilliance of these two rider the next best female rider was an amazing 35 seconds back!
